    Pre ignition problems.

    Hi guys i have a 77 5 door and just took out the 1600 and put an 8v 1800 from a mk2.as i was pulling the 1800 out of the Doner car i broke the vacuum chamber on the dizzy so i put the dizzy from the 1600 in the 1800 and now i cant stop the engine from pinging like mad!.what i want to know is there a difference in the dizzys? and if so what should i use? any help whould be great.thanks

    no difference as far as i can tell.
    Double check timing, points, leads ect.

    PS, im running a 1600 dizzy in a 1800 engine ;

    Thanks for the reply.im running electronic ignition.dont know if this makes any differance .ill check everything again

    What static timing position have you set the distributor to ??

    Does the vacuum canister have advance only or advance & retard ??

    Try sucking on the vacuum line to the canister ( engine not running) to see if you have perforated the diaphram in the canister, check and mnake sure its moving the timing plate inside the dizzy as well...
    Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

    If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??
