    Possible defection from VW-MKI

    Hi guys,

with my car gone for a little while now, getting it's last stages of work before it's back on the road after about a year now, I've been gaining abit of a taste of other cars.

More specifically old JDM datto's e.g 240z and first generation skyline GTR's. Whilst the cost of good examples of both cars would be way out of my current budget a seed has certainly been planted.

I think it's been the culmination of things that have happened recently including my trip to Japan for two weeks. Last Tuesdays track day in which I co-drove friends restored 240z (costed him over $20K and still going). And the undeniable SEX appeal of this genre of cars.

    Mouth watering.

I'm expecting the MKI to be finished sometime in early Jan-07 and when it hits the road it will be running all the goodies plust weitec coilovers and all bugs ironed out.

All up it would have costed me around $12,000 to get it on the road. I've not held back on any reasonable performance parts of the car. God I haven't even put the plates on order on it yet and I'm thinking of selling. NMK-16V (euro).

I NEVER even dreamt of selling my car but that day may be closer than I thought. For those thinking of picking up a reasonable bargain start saving.

Still, a good blatt in the Mk1 might rekindle a spark.

I look at other cars that mates in the BMSC are building/restoring for competition and I am continually amazed at the cost difference and quality/availability of parts when compared to my Golf(s). I would not dispute for a moment the raw power (and rear steer) fun provided by the likes of the Z, but unless you fancy trying your hand at competition drifting, with a limited budget the MK1 is still the best "bang-for-buck" IMHO.

Having the number of MKI's I've had I know exactly what you mean by bang for your buck and to be honest this is more the reason why I've stuck with VW and along the way grew in love with the form and simplicity.

I never thought my taste would head towards coupes - always thought of myself as a hatch lover.

Anyhow I'm still very excited with the progress of the MKI - it'll be all engineered and driveable pretty soon.

You never know, I might get the MKI back eat some hondas and by back to my normal self........hahahhah.

Love the old school GTR's but they remind me of a Jetta coupe Jap style.

I dont blame you wanting to buy one but it will cost you..... I reckon once you get ur Mk1 back u should be sweet.
