NSW does have club scheme which is currently in trial period to potentially have 'free use' days permanently added.
Brian is still at Galston, spoke to him yesterday. FYI his mobile doesn't have great reception at his current location.
You can get unregistered permits which allow movement of unregistered cars.

    Nice car btw

a passenger car manufactured after 1/7/1976 must have child restraint anchorages for each rear seat position & these must comply to ADR 5/
So as far as I can tell Lap belts are Illegal in the outer rear seating of my cab ?????? Yes/No
As for registering it as a 2 seater try explaining that to a highway cop who has had a bad day "ohh no problems sir off you go" yeah right

If you need any particular parts - I have a heap of Australian cabriolet stuff, should you need it for compliance etc.

Like i said, mines registered as a 2 seater. It still has the rear seats in and lap belts.

Its only me and the wife, so i wouldn't be carrying anyone in the back. So its suits me.

When I looked into putting the 3 point belts in I was going to use these guys.

Supply & fitting of Australian standard seatbelts, harnesses & child restraints

or these guys are in Gosford

(My brother's Aussie delivered cabby, had lap belts in the rear).

    Thanks to all for info
Pls Check this out found on the net from the Uk link is Crazyquiff's Mk1 Golf
I also ran it past a compliance engineer who thought they would be satisfactory provided that the backing plates are adequate the company sells these with second hand belts as a package but the engineer said he would require new (readily available) Aus belts fitted
am waiting for reply re cost without S/H belts & pics of backing plate
reply to nightphotographer: cheers for that but how the hell did the imported cabs from the States get compliance
hhhmmm so any one sitting in the rear of a USA imported VW MK1 cab that has a head on basically ends up buried in the skull of the driver/passenger in front hhhmmm bet the orthadontists luv em

Unsure what you meant by that - I said that Australian delivered cabbies (I.e not imported) have lap belts. I've got 2 and seen dozens, none with 3 points like as you mentioned. George has a Rabbit Cabriolet - be interesting to see what his is like.

    Hi
    I apologise for my ignorance
I was led to believe that Mk1 VW cabs were never assembled in Oz because the did not comply & that VW managed to circumvent this by importing in volume from US/Mexico & that is why there are so few over here ?
The Oz/US ones also have the third stop light on the boot lid which mine does not again i believe this was a USA standard
    Could be completely wrong
