    Polo Mk4 Dash in Mk1

Hey guys, going to attempt this conversion as no one in New Zealand would have seen that yet(some good things about moving from Scotland haha).

I would like to use the Polo Clocks so my questions are........

Polo doesn't use mechanical speedo drive, is there a drive that will fit 020 box, or do I need 02a??
Will I need fuel sender from tank to allow the gauge to work right or will Mk1 sender work?
Same as above with the Temp sender? Not a big deal I suppose.

I have 2 Polos that I will take dashes out of so lots of bits, I think I will use whole Polo fuse box and wire it all fresh.

And just any other hints that will help guys. Thanks

Should be able to use an Ibiza / Cordoba / Golf electronic speedo sender unit to send speed signals to your clock. Golf 3 Has a nice separate loom for this function which will plug into the POlo Fusebox.

Excellent there is a Golf 3 with 020 box in the dismantlers yard I am sure so that solves that issue, and great that it is a seperate loom!!

    Thanks for that.

If you are good with electrics, you should be able to splice the other gauges in.

I put one in my Mk1 - pretty easy and snug fit. Only difficulty is getting the height right

The fuel gauge senders are actually very close. If you measure the full and empty resistance of each, the difference is hardly worth worrying about.

I can't answer your question about the water temp gauge as I ran mine with the corresponding engine!

Other option is to place the Mk1 clocks in a carbon or plastic (or whatever else you want to use) binnacle and set them in the Polo dash. I've just done similar in my brother's project

Do you have a picture of that Valver?

Might be tough getting the Polo clocks to work so may just get a Tacho/Speedo etc, all VDO of course. Hmm but then need a speedo with km counter on it.....

That looks like a good fit Valver.

I have actually chopped up two dashes trying to make em fit Mk1s. The width is right, but getting it to sit low and still have a demister that works is hard.

Also the gear shifter is very close to the console, particularly in 3rd gear.

    And the window winders.

Good luck with it Barry GTI.

Sorry Valver I meant a pic of your Brothers setup hahaha, have seen yours many times, looks great. I knida know the answser to this already but how hard was it fitting the Polo indicator stalks to Mk1? Do you have any more pics of dash swap?

Golf Loon - That is my big issue, I NEED the heaters to work as the weather in Dunedin is *****, easily as bad as Scotland where I left hahhaa, hence I will live in Sydney again one day(love the place). I have the full heater box and all ducting even the pollen filter box from the Polo so will try and get the whole lot in.
