    points to elctric dizzy help

    Going to go for a electric ignition setup when new engine goes in (mk3 1.8L 8V)

    I have a suitable coil ready, and i got a bunch of wiring that connects to the hall sensor? on dissy and also the ignition module.

    Few questions.

    Will any modules work? anyone got a part number to go by? there a few on ebay cheap
    anyone got any idea how to wire it up?

    Bit reading on the internets has yielded these results

    looking at module and reading from right to left the numbers are

    7 6 5 4 3 2 1

    1 goes to Coil -
    2 Ground
    3 to hall sensor, closest to front of car
    4 power.... (+ on coil?.. battery?)
    5 hall sensor closest to firewall
    6 middle wire on hall sensor
    7 nothing.

    Inputs, thoughts, this correct?

    Also read that you need to get rid of the resistor wire from fuse box to coil.
    Correct?

    Seems a bit of a hassle to do all that, sure the benefits would be worth while?

    This is my wiring chart we went off when we did my mates mk3/seat 2.0l 8v conversion using mk1 Gti 8v dizzy and module

    Pin 1 - Green, Ign. coil earth
    Pin 2 - Brown, Earth to the body/battery
    Pin 3 - Brown/Yellow, Distributor 3 pin plug. Pin -
    Pin 4 - Black, Ign. coil power
    Pin 5 - Red/Black, Distributor 3 pin plug. Pin +
    Pin 6 - Green/White, Distributor 3 pin plug. Pin O
    Pin 7 - Blank

    Pretty sure any early mk1 - mk2 module will work, Im guessing the dizzy you have isn't a vacum advance item??

    You have to run a vacuum advance dizzy for this setup to work (can buy brand new on ebay USA) and you need to swap the dizzy gears over back to original mk3, otherwise you have to run a electronic vacuum advance deal like i run on my 2.0l 16v they also float around ebay i have part numbers laying around and wiring diagrams for that to.

    The ignition module is the same as Holden Camira, a lot of cars used that module, you can also pull all the loom and connectors from a Camira.

    1600 and 1800 dizzys are mechanically interchangeable.

    The 1800 dizzy won't have any advance, you can use your 1600 dizzy or a MK2 dizzy if you want electronic ignition.

    Ahhhk

    So the parts i need is

    Camira/mk1/mk2 module
    Mk2 Electric dizzy (direct bolt in ? )
    Wiring. (what model Camira will i need to look for?)

    Any info bout the wire from fusebox to coil? need to replace it?

    Yep, that module's real common, Camiras, Audis BMWs all had them.

    MK2 dizzy drops straight in, late cabrio ones are electronic too.

    Just look for a Camira with the module JD / JE era. Grabbing the matching coil might be a good idea too.

    In the camira the loom between the dizzy and the module and coil is a seperate loom tied up within the engine bay loom, if you're careful you can extract it in one piece and just plug it all back in, only having to supply power and earth.

    If your car was originally a petrol car you will need to run a new wire from the fuse box to power the module in order to bypass the resistive wire built into the factory loom.

    Yeap thanks pete,

    Think ill go to the wreckers in a few days

    My car was Diesel but it has a Petrol loom in it...
    Can i just disconnect the resistor wire at the fusebook, and at the coil and just run a 18gauge wire through? and still leave resistor wire there for if id need it again?

    Also i think the resistor wire at coil end shares same plug as another wire, any idea what thats for? ill go out later and see what colour it is

    Yeah, I'd just leave the wire in there, see if you can isolate it it at the fuse box so it isn't live anymore.

    Other wire might be for the auto choke, I'd have to look at a few diagrams to figure that out.

    Nope its not auto choke, well i dont think it is anyway,

    There 3 wires coming out of loom and into coil, 1 is red/blk for - side of coil, 1 is the white/purple for + side and then a Black wire for + side... so 3 wires, but the blk and the white/purple wire share same plug to connect to coil.

    Might be the sense wire for the tacho then

    red / black is tacho signal feed, fuel inj relay trigger.

    White purple is resistor wire from the fuse box ( replace with lower resistance wire to feed switched power to the Ign control mod as mentioned above)

    Black is the feed from the starter terminal to deliver full 12V at cranking ( seen some electronic ign models still use this and others not , from various bentleys)
    Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

    If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??
