Please help - horrible lumpy idle?

Took my car into the mechanics today for a standard major service and when i got it back it was idling very rough and lumpy sounding. They have looked at it and have no idea what is happening but there is also a 'knocking' sound as you come off accelartion now. Sounds awful but is running fine apart from this.

Any suggestions as to what is going on? the car is a MK1 with a '91 16 valve 2.0L conversion.

    Cheers

Right so ............. thinking bad things.

Took it away from the ham fisted idiots that did the servicing and took to another mechanic.

Turns out it is just an air leak and it cost $90 to fix

Sure sounded much worse but she is running happy again

Better still keeps me out of trouble with the wife!

? can we see some photos of this 16v?!

depending on the fueling system, it's either heavily reliant on vacuum lines being operational, or completely dependent on them. even from 91, they're old and perished. keep on top of them!
