Perth: Automotive Paint & Supply Store

    Hey Alll,

Scooped up a 1977 Mk1 Golf about 2 months ago, will probably start a build thread when I get to it! (hoping soon..really soon)

Anyway to my question. Does anyone recommend a paint store in Perth? (To order/buy car paint) Looking to do a full body spray, need to by the equipment tho, compressor ..gun etc. If I cant do it myself for what ever the reason maybe.....

Any recommendations for rust repair full body paint guy? ..preferably SOR. ( and i dont have the $$ to do a 10k paint job which I know is the average price..maybe mates rates? )

    Cheers in advance.

    Hi and Welcome,

Cant help you with a paint shop but can tell you about my experience, painting it is quite a big job, and will take some time, but that's very dependent on how particular you are.

If you do all the bodywork yourself, and don't replace any bits you can get away with a few hundred for materials.

Time is the biggest killer, if you're going to do it properly and paint everything, expect to spend a significant amount of time sanding and preping.

But in my opinion its well worth the effort when you see something looking schmick after putting a few hours effort in.

It really depends on your commitment level to it.

But most of all, have fun, and enjoy it. Good luck, keep us posted on how you go.

    Hi grant,
I bought a gravity type paint gun from an auto paint store in rockingham (much better than Venturi type from bunnings). I told the lady, yes lady! What I wanted to prep and spray and she gave me all the products and pressure settings etc I needed to do the job myself. I sourced a clipper body kit in white and successfully re painted it in metallic green with my little bunnings compressor and my new paint gun.
Prep is the key. Bog for big dents. spray on filler primer for small dents and scratches. Etch original paint with scotch pad and sugar soap. That's my tips mate.
I'll be taking my project for another shot at the rolling road end of June and hopefully the pits soon after that...
