People's opinions on fuel pumps for carbs

    Hi guys,
I have removed the mechanical fuel pump from my 1.6l petrol, and its completely shagged. Im looking to replace it with an electric pump, as I had a Carter Gold on my old rotary and it fed a 48mm Weber quite happily for over 10 years.
So, Im looking for people's experience with electric fuel pumps in MK1 golfs. Engine is running a 40mm DHLA Dellorto, ported inlet, ported head, electronic ignition and extractors. Im leaning towards either a Carter again or a Holley.
    Any help appreciated (as usual!).
    Cheers, David.

Carter 4070 did the trick for me.
    Dual 40's on a 2.0.
It might be overkill for streetcar, my fuel consumption was 1 litre/minute on the track.

Any electric pump will do, even a small one. The 1.6 doesn't need as much fuel as your rotary so a big pump will just be pumping fuel back through the return line.

When you do get one make sure it's mounted low so it's gravity fed from the tank. Nothing worse than running out of fuel and having to prime the pump to get it working when it's mounted too high.

    Cheers

Yeah the Carter 4070 was actually the one I wanted, either that or a Holley black. Sounds like the Carter might be a go after all.

I use the standard vacuum pump on my Mk1 1.8 fitted with twin 45 DCOE webers and 12:1 compression and have no problems with fuel, runs 12.8 AFR at 8,500 RPM and is run in rallies all the time

Yeah, I was meaning to mention the standard pump too. Our 1600 passat is running a single 40 and the stock pump is handling things just fine.

I think Geoff Hale runs stock fuel pumps in his MK1 rally car too.
