    93 Convertible - a little advice needed

    Hi Everyone,

Good to see a Golf site up in Oz, been into Mk 1's for ages and moved to Melbourne from the UK about 5 years ago - gutted there's not lots of Mk 1 GTI's around to play with

Anyways, I picked up a Mk1 93 Convertible in very good condition (1 lady owner from new), its been off the road for a while (12 months) due to travel and renovations etc - would love some advice on the following:

    1) After a long period of no use - what area's should i pay extra attention to when putting it back on the road? I..I'm thinking brake lines and rubber hoses breaking down...etc

Its been under cover so really its just from a mechanical perspective

    2) Also on the styling front...the front of the car is slightly higher than the back, does this mean i should drop the front more than the back to get a flat lowered look?

3)The car has the Karmann kit on it, I'm wondering what the max drop i could get away with before having to start grinding out the arches etc? I still want some comfort so maybe max is not exactly what i'm after -

I'm going to go for 16's as i think 17's may be too much of a stretch etc

    4) do i have to order my single light grill / eyebrow spoiler from the UK / Europe? or is there a local shop around (Melbourne)

5)Also from my understanding these little babies are impossible to tune up, is there anything i can do to make it quicker?

Any help in any of these area's would be greatly appreciated - and keep the faith!!

ok i could prob help you out with a few things....

instead of tuning it up your best option would be engine transplant.. maybee newer 2.0lt mk3's or 1.8t if you wanna go BAD!

also yes you prob have to order your exterior parts from europe.. or even post up intrest in the wanted section in the classifieds..

also i fit 17's on my cabrio and they fit just fine... 17's would look better on yours as my one has euro plastic bars not the klipper kit....

now with the lowering.... the barley legal limit in melbourne is "lowest point of the car" is 100mm or a coca~cola can high from the ground....

as i suggest .... do it as low as possible....

    hope this helps?

p.s this is my baby... now i gotta cabby buddy for the next cruze

    Thanks Wabbit

Nice Cab, I'm a bit jealous as some air con would be most useful i'll admit- can that be retrofitted? I guess i could salvage it from another cabrio eh Wabbit!!

Your car looks really good on 17's, how much did you lower it by? Did you have to grind or roll out the arches to let it go full lock?

Just joking about the air con

i think it is lowerd an inch or 2... also the offset is perfect so it does not rub and fulllocks perfectly fine...

You cant put 17"s on the Karmann Kit. I had one before got totaled, tryed to fit 16"s with 50 tyres but there was rubing, maby 16 with 40 or 17 with 30.

Also the front was higher on my 93' cabrio i thought it was a problem but seeing as you have the same thing and that my car pasted road worthy, i guess thats just how it is.

If you need spare parts ive got plenty. Electric roof too

WABIT mate...sweet car, nice wheels (rolin on dubs lol) and love that jap style one racing seat.

I have a spare aircon arrangement from a totalled cabrio, along with the hydraulic / electric roof mechanism. + all the other bits. hit me up if your after something specific.
    Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??
