    Opinions on potential new mk1

    hi all.

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....m=170319101518

i have been talking to the owner about buying the mk1 for $1800 with rego 'til june. the car is pretty much standard with a bit of new trim on the outside...

just wanted your opinions on the car...good or dud...as it will be my first vw and first car, no more day dreaming

i was thinking of the usual mods - extractors etc, webbers and 7" or 8" mini superlites. new steering wheel, gti front bumper if possible and maybe eventually some race seats...maybe...

    all opinions welcome,
    thanks,
    tom.

looks tidy, but personally i'd be a little relectant seeing the 450,000kms on it.
if you had enough money, it may be a great parts car. perhaps you could try and find a 2-door shell and spend some time swapping things over.

all in all, 4 doors really aren't as well sort after as the 2's so if you're going to be spending money on a mk1 then, yeah i'd be chasing a 2-door, but that's just me.
would probably make a fairly reliable daily tho, depending on what engine work has been done.
either way good luck with the hunt

When buying a mk1 millage means nothing you have so many other things to worry about rust, electrics and the engine has probably had some sort of work done over that time but for $1800 seems like a decent car and if those chrome bumpers are decent thats about $800 there alone these days! if it was in brissy id take a look myself

I think he sunlight's played a trick there, it looks like it's done 150k Less than 100k miles in old money (32 yr old, less than 3k a year ).
Nice colour, nice interior and looks an honest car. I'd say it's good value for money (or would be over here, works out at less than £1k). I'd keep it pretty much as it is apart from wheels, lowered 40mm and a bit more grunt under the bonnet IMO

it does look like 150,000 after having looked a little closer!
hell yeah that's way better, as long as it the rust is minimal, then go ahead, you'll love it, such a fun car to own

I reckon that's a good price for a car like that. neat interior and resprayed, and hopefully rust free body!

It's much easier buying a neat car and going from there, rather than putting yourself behind the 8 ball to start off with.

It definitely done 450K. it's been on ebay a while now, and i asked him a while back whether it was 150 or 450 as i was unsure, and he said 450.

I think he also said thats, running gear wise, it's all stock too. Apparently in the pics the front end is lowered, but, from memory, he said it's on stock suspension now.

looks pretty tidy man, i'd be checking it out for $1800. you can always just whack a new engine in if needs be but, yeah, have a good look over it first, or ask for a RWC.

i think its only been on ebay so long cause he's been asking too much. Good luck!
