Noisy Lifters, ATF Trick DIesel Trick?

    Hey all

Got a problem with a noisy Lifter, it comes and goes. worse after a 15 min town drive.

Matt (Golf Loon) suggested 500ml of diesel in oil, run at idle for 15 mins, few revs. then drop the oil and filter.

Also read if you drop a Litre of Oil and Replace it with ATF (automatic Transmission Fluid) 1L and run it for up to 100kays if not more, then drop the oil it should clear out all the gunk built up.

    Any Insights?

On a good note, the 1.8L is amazing in a Mk1

Dont be scared, it's pretty simple, just make sure the timing is right. Get a Haynes and your hands dirty!

I've also heard of much success with this diesel trick.

My old audi (same same engine) had very very noisey lifters. Apparently the next owner did this, and cleared them right out!

    Those 1.8s are a great motor for a mk1.

Give it a good run, that lifter might free itself up once the motor gets up to proper temps.
