77 on were German assembled and thus the build and quality were a fair bit better. I remember at the time it was chalk and cheese between the 2 builds. The 76ers in Australia were assembled at Clayton in Victoria while the VW factory was being changed into Datsun or Nissan hands.
The trim levels were higher with the 77 0n GLS versions. 76 models were LS.
I would be going for a later one. As Syncro states, the later the better.
