    Newbie from England

    Hi there.

Balti Pie here, all the way from Sunny England. I am currently running a Standard series 1 79 Golf L in Mars Red and am after a couple of 'Showy' Bits. I especially want a 'Venetian' Exterior sun Blind (Not sure of the specific name.......But it the one which fits to the rear window and has slats). Also woul like a roofrack with Wooden slats. The only ones I can find are all Metal types. I've come here, as a friend (a Targa Beetle owner) said Austrailia is quite a good source for Beetle 'Blinds'.

    Hope you guys can help.

Hi and welcome, the rear exterior blind is commonly known as a rear louvre (sp) they come in a black moulded plastic.

That is the only external one I know of.

A big welcome, mate! Hope you enjoy being a member of our community. I had an external louvre on my last Mk1 diesel. They must be getting hard to find these days as most would have been manufactured in the '70s. Aussie UV ain't kind to plastics! Would cost a bit to get one shipped to the UK.

Thanks for the warm welcome, Wasn't sure if I'd get some abuse....being a pommie and all....I'm sure that'll come!

Anyway I now know it's called a louvre and they must be rare as I don't think I've ever seen one on a mk1 in England.

Golfman PM your way, Let me know if you can help out.

Just a quick question on the louvre that I hadn't thought of before. Does the rear wiper arm have to be removed or does it just fit over it? Anyone know?

Most Aussie Mk1s are pre 1980, so dont have rear wipers. I reckon the louvre would not fit over the wiper or if it did, the wiper would not be able to be used.
