does anyone have a mk4 haynes? that would tell you whether there were any 4 stud versions...

There were definitely 4-stud Mk4's. These came in the very early base models (1.6L). Mk3.5 Cabrios also came in 4-stud pattern. Peedman has a set of 4 stud Mk4 rims on his Mk3 too.

yeah the low spec mk4 had 4x100 stud (1.6's) had them. but they didnt come out till '98 those are mk3 wheels

Well if they are a 97 wheel then they must be a Mk3 cause the Mk3 came out till end of 97 didn't it?
