yea welcome to the coolest place for Aussies to talk about their cars and other stuff, of coursenice to see some realy crome bumpers there
Thanks for the comments guys. There are some fine examples of how VW's are supposed to be on this forum.
I'm pretty sure its the original paint. I'm not sure what the actual name of the color is but it looks orange to me! I think the car must have been garaged for a while because the paint is in good condition.
Yes, it does need to be dumped! What do you guys suggest for relatively cheap springs/shockers to lower Mk1's, besides cutting the springs!
Also, check my gallery for more pics.
Cheers

Yes nice car - welcome.
The ride height was the only issue I had.
Please don't cut the springs - they are the length they are for a reason!
If you can lash out on a new set of springs, you can get the current ones reset - They are put in a furnice and heated up, then 'sweezed' a little.
I've never done it though.
Some people take all kinds of short-cuts with springs.
Not sure what the previous owner of my GTI did, but when you jack up the front end, the springs rattle around loose - there's an inch or more of free play![]()
When the springs are short like that I fit small chocks near the front pivot of the suspension arm to prevent the strut from dropping down too far, dislocating the springs. cheers![]()

Oh! and seat belt material straps to the lower rear shocker bolts to prevent the rear suspension droping too far as well!![]()
