New Mk1 Arrival to Australian Shores!

    Hi there Mk1 guys!

I've just signed up to the forum, and posted my newbie log yesterday. Here's the link for details/history on the car:

So while I had some work done on it in the UK before shipping it over, there are a few outstanding jobs (and a few new ones!) that I need to get sorted.

Firstly, I'm getting the bodywork all re-done. I have a mate on the Gold Coast who has his own bodyshop, so that's sorted.

Next job is the interior. Which I'd like to do while the bodywork gets done. It needs completely re-upholstering. I have found a couple of places, but willing to listen to recommendations and experiences from anyone who has done it previously or lives locally. Or both!

The mechanics are in pretty good nick, but I'm already aware of VA Garage in Southport, and will most likely pop in and see Adam at some point.

I'm pretty keen on getting some starmag wheels or something similar. Not sure where the best place is to get them though. Recommendations also welcome!

Further to the gear lever being hacked to pieces by that wharfie, apparently there is some kind of issue with the gear selection now, probably caused by that tw@t. Frustrating as hell as my Father drove the car right up to Southampton docks at Christmas and said it drove spectacularly. If it turns out to be a linkage issue, I'll probably throw in the short shift kit from TTT at the same time. I've already found the replacement gear lever part from vw-classicparts.de to fix the sheared one.

The car is still probably 3 weeks away from collection at this stage, so I have time to get other things if I need to or should do.

    Cheers,
    Dan

I almost forgot the electrics! The dash is playing up a little apparently. The fuse or lighting, as well as the speedo is reading about 17mph FAST. I'm not sure why this is, but there is an aftermarket white dash on there. I was told by the VAG guys in the UK that I needed to change it back to whatever the original part was. I think it's a special GTI dash with MPG under the speedo or something.

I also need to find the best books for this model. So far i've found this:

ISBN 10 - 1850100977 - Volkswagen Golf, Jetta and Scirocco MK1(Petrol) 1974-85 (Haynes Owners Workshop Manual)
ISBN 10 - 1859608108 - You and Your VW Volkswagen Golf GTI : Buying, Enjoying, Maintaining, Modifying.
