Need help with engine for baja

Hi everyone, ive been working on this baja for a while now and until recently thought i had the engine department sorted... but like most parts of this car it hasnt gone as planned.
The engine in the car was used as a mock up, it is a 1600 from a mk1. Now this one is completely seized but i have another that ive pulled down for a rebuild however ive found that its clearly been over-reved and isnt really in that great condition.

So essentially im after another engine, however id like it to remain much the same size as the mk1 donk as the rear cage is fairly tight around the engine. So ive been thinking of a mk3 engine? does the 2.0ltr from a mk3 have the same engine mounts? Sump height? Ect. How about the intake manifold and exhaust? Would these parts swap over from the 1.6?

    Thanks for all the help!

2 litre engine block is 16 mm "taller"than the 1.6 unit, ( crank centre line to top of block )
Head side water outlet is between cylinder 3 & 4 whereas 1.6 litre is between cyl 1&2
2 litre head may have inverted T shaped intake ports ( for fuel injector ) as opposed to 1.6 more oval shaped ports.
Use the 5 litre sump of the later engine instead of the 1.6 4 litre item.
May need an adaptor ring if you wish to use 1.6 dizzy.
Exhaust, engine pulleys, Alternator can swap over, however later engine may have a better alternator set up
    Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

    Cheers,
    Grant...

The 1800 from the MK3 would be a good choice too. Most dimensions are identical to the 1600.

Main difference is location of the top radiator hose and the need for an electric fuel pump.

My ADZ (Mk3 1800) was using a mechanical fuel pump, same as the mk1 1600 motor. It really is the easiest swap you can do, and an engine can be got for less than 200 if you're looking in the right place
