2E still has all the same issues as the AGG.

block off plate is the way to go if you want to retain the 2.0 head otherwise the head off an 1800 ADY or GX motor will bolt on and solve your manifold issues.

Then of course you'll have other things to block off.

The Weber DGAV carb on a Passat manifold will feed a 2.0 if it's jetted properly, they came off 2.0 Escorts originally.

I put a 2e in my race car, the story starts on about page 22 of the wreck to race thread.

    http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...-13857-22.html

There's several years of development in that thread, grab a coffee before you sit down to read it.

I had it running on KJET then carbs and it's had two different 1800 heads on it.

    Goes pretty well now.

Grab an ADY or ADZ motor from MK3 Golf CL or from a Seat Cordoba.

They'll bolt straight in and your Passat manifold, 1600 exhaust, and dizzy will all just bolt up.

1800 is a shorter stroke motor than the 2.0 and is a fantastic motor for the MK1.

They really do go like stink.

A 1.8 into a Mk1 is much much simpler than the 2 litre, having done both. You can do a 1.8 in a weekend, but for all the reasons mentioned, the 2L is much more complicated. The 2L is a slightly taller motor, so your exhaust headers may not be long enough, standard certainly touch underneath on small bumps. If you didn't have the 2L already, I would be suggesting a 1.8 anyday, much less stressful.

I just grabbed an ADZ motor from the wreckers. (1800 Seat Cordoba same as MK3 Golf CL).

It's for a project I'm working on. Only cost $120 and it's in great condition. Just pulling it down now.

These go really well in a MK1 with a Passat manifold and a Weber. 1600 dizzy fits straight in.

Water pump pulley offset can cause issues but if you install a 1600 water pump at the same time your old pulley will go back on.

That was Imlachs on Centre Road in Springvale.

I think there's one left in a Cordoba there still.

Prices on gearboxes are great too.

It's a self service wrecker so you have to pull it out yourself.

Geoff Hale and I took about 2 hours to extract a motor and box yesterday.

The trick with buying motors from Imlachs is to strip any accessories you don't want and leave them there.

I removed everything except the waterpump and starter motor. They didn't charge me for the water pump.

    Box $125
    Bare Motor $120
    Starter Motor $38

The surprise was the gearbox. I was just grabbing it as another 5 speed for my collection thinking it would be a CHB which is the stock box for Cordobas.

I didn't bother to check the number until I got it home to discover it's a 2Y!

The 2Y is a close ratio box from a MK2 16V, how it got into a Seat is anyone's guess.

They're a bit stronger than other 020 boxes as they have a 24mm input shaft.

Of course clamped between the motor and box was a 210mm clutch and fly wheel.

    An excellent day's shopping!
