    Mystery Carb

G'day guys, me again with another silly post. Been talking with Golf Loon about my car, and we're both stumped as to what the hell is attached to my motor.

I've taken a picture with my phone, will get some higher quality pics next day or two.

I was under the impression it was the stock Solex, however after seeing a stock Solex, it's definitely bigger. Has a VW logo stamped on the side, as well as JAPAN. Didn't think VW carbs were from Japan? My car also has a manual choke.

Intake manifold looks like a passat manifold.

Sorry guys, i'm stumped. What the hell is it?

Says me with a smashed up right wrist from the bloody thing. Sorry wavering a bit.

Does it work? Debatable. The choke has to be -just- so on startup, otherwise it just floods over sooo bad.

I think I've got it sussed, after doing a search for keihin, hit onto a vw club in england, i think it's a keihin 26/30 dual choke. Which according to some sketchy sources, came standard on citigolfs (mostly with 1.3's!) in SA.

Which makes me wonder, what the hell is a seth efrikan carb off a smaller motor doin on my car? I'd love to know what the previous owner has done

Never even heard of keihins, no idea how easy it'll be to service, might have to search around for a 32/36 dgv weber.

Very odd indeed. Looked like a single barrel to me, from the pic, I am assuming that the 26/30 is a dual barrel. Odd.

+1 for the DGV. Real easy to set up and get going. There's always a few floating around on ebay, that've come off gemini's and escorts. You'll need a Passat manifold to fit it easy. All in all. top mod imo.

Yeah, it really is bizarre, here's the link i found: http://www.vwgolfmk1.org.uk/modules....wtopic&t=42335

Top looks like a single, but 2 barrells underneath.

and from what i can gather, I think it sits on a passat manifold. +1

Worked on plenty of these in the Uk mate , which made me jump at Kehein,on many polos over there , the shapes that u dont get here and Audi 80 like i mentioned inhaled through these too. Come to mention it it was on some Audi 80 1.6 around 86-88 models too, which of course would have exactly the same manifold as the passat.
