Thread: My sort-of restoration

    Elongating it will be fine.

Just hit it with a round file/reamer. Drilling it conventionally will be problematic.

That spacing is MK2. The arm is about 2mm thicker and the holes are further apart.

I agree. I would contact the seller and see what they say. They should be able to send you the right ones as long as you send back the incorrect ones. I would make sure they pay for the postage.

    Cheers.

Buying from Slammed Distribution doesn't look so bad now, does it?

LOL dude, i have no idea what elongating means.

Even if i drill out the odd 2mm, to make the blots fit, how do i close the wide gap.. Do i just throw in some solid spacers/washers? Or would that not be very beneficial.
I really cant be bothered with the whole shipping process etc, as my friend bought them for me, therefor i have to hastle him all over again. If i can do a bit of 'scotty dyi' id much rather that. Any tips would be helpful guys

And im left to beleive they are for mk2's as i double checked with my other mk1's arm and its still wider. Pete is it possible they have mixed up the package, or do you think its just a sh*tty made coilover with poor measurements?

if they are mk2 coilovers will the height and everything still be the same? I dont know if there any different, but if say you wind those right down and you mk1 still sits a foot off the ground cuase theyre different lengths or something then it may be worth going through the trouble of trying to get the correct ones. If theyll still get you just as low and stuff though, i vote modify them to fit.

Elongating just means take a file or something to the hole and make it longer. Could probably do it with a drill if your really careful, would be easy to make a mess though. If you do decide to do that I'd see if when you tighten the bolts up if the gap closes, if not, them maybe yeah a washer or something. Still my advice is probably horrible im running my coilovers with no helper springs or bump stops, hahah

    They're MK2 for sure.

I'm in the process of modifying some MK2 uprights to go into a MK1 at the moment so I'm full bottle on all the measurements.

If that were a MK1 unit there would be a a U shaped spacer welded inside the mounting area to take up the 1mm either side. You might be able to recover one form a MK1 strut.

Dunno about differences between MK1 and MK2 damping rates though, I'd imagine the MK2 is heavier.

I just put on a wheel and its really far from the arch. I was thinking, maybe is because the car is on jacks, but still it wont go down that much once the cars on the floor. So i think that the mk2 is alot higher, as the wheel sits pretty far from the wheel arch.

Guess im left with no choice but to return them. Ill see what i can do

Firstly would it make any difference, if it was from a '79 - 84' golf mk1? Should still be the same right?

And i jsut checked, it said that postage is to be returned at customers expense. Ahhhhhhhhhhh. Im screwed hehehe
