Unfortunately for me, this is my first dabble into k-jet, so I'm flying half blind here...

So, even though I do think it's possibly the fuel pump, I'm not even sure where to start my trouble shooting...
Also, I need to look up how to prime a k-jet system too, as if it has run out of fuel in the lines, that may be all the issue is...

I've never even heard a fuel pump in this car... But I believe that the main fuel pump is in or near the tank.
There is a device on the side of the engine that the main fuel line from the tank goes to and it's located where a mechanical fuel pump would live. It also has an electrical connector on the side, but I don't believe that it's actually a pump, so I'm not too sure what it even is...

Tomorrow I'll connect up a timing light to make sure that the static timing is correct, but as none of that was touched, I'm not expecting it to be wrong.

The only other contributing factor is that the battery was disconnected for over a day...
Not too sure what that may have done to the 'ignition timing' computer.

For future reference, some really great k-jet info...

    Great VWWatercooled troubleshooting page...
    K-Jet info and testing.

A good Volvo one (as there isn't much difference between our k-jet and theirs...)

Whoo hoo, after reading heaps of info on k-jet, the issue has fixed itself...
No need for me to stress anymore...

Although I didn't really do anything, just left the car off for a couple of hours, and also re-checked the fuel pump fuse again, it now starts...

Can't wait to take it for a drive tomorrow now...

Probably just needed to run to re prime the system if you had disconnected fuel lines. Change the fuel filter first chance you get to make sure the crap isnt getting into the metering head and injectors.
K jet is extremely reliable if the few maintenance points are adhered to, Mine has been running ~33 years, most of it with great reliability.
    Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

    Cheers,

That sounds like the fuel pump relay to me. The solder gets dry and cracks, causing the exact symptoms you describe. As rocco says, k-jet is really solid and reliable as long as you keep filters clean and run good gas.

    Thanks for that info guys...

Although I didn't disconnect any fuel lines, I may have left the ignition on for 10 minutes before trying to start it the first time...
However, I did turn it completely for a couple of minutes between attempts to get it started.

How long must everything be off for the system to attempt to re-prime?

There is absolutely no plans for the k-jet to be removed...
It has been running well for the 6 months I've had the car, and I'm getting just over 8L/100km fuel economy...
Also, I've stopped and started the car about 20 times since the intial issue now, and not a single problem...

    Thanks again.

Bought some extractors on the weekend...
4-2-1, and not mandrel bent, so they are cheapies...

    Now the real question...
Where do I mount the oxygen sensor...

Currently its not far from the ports, but it is 'after' the 4-1 of the stock manifold...
Also, it's a single wire sensor, so no heating element...

As I see it, I have a couple of options.

    1. Near one of the exhaust ports.
Plus - Hot exhaust gasses, No Delay.
    Minus - Only 1 cylinder.

    2. Just after the first Y.
Plus - At least 2 cylinders.
Minus - Cooling Gasses, Only 2 Cylinders, Moderate Delay.

    3. After the second Y.
    Plus - All four Cylinders
Minus - Cool Gasses, Largest Delay.

Cool / Cooling gasses can be mitigated with a heated sensor, but I'm not too sure about how the delay, or the reduced cylinder count will affect the sensor outputs.

From what I understand, most 3 wire sensors could be used... i.e. A Mk2 3 wire sensor.

Any insight / examples you guys can provide / share will be greatly appreciated...
