have you ever driven a mk 1 auto (stock)? I'm pretty sure there is good reason to change it if you know what i mean.

Besides, it can all be done to look factory anyways, and use all factory setup. so it's wouldn't be modifying it in a sense.

    as for the conversion it'self.

Need the new box of course, manual linkage setup, manual "pedal box" which hangs off the steering column, which I think get's changed. all in all, it's a fairly complex, but probably worth it, esp if you are handy with a spanner.

alex, (intesnsm1) had an auto mk 1, that he was going to convert, so he might know a bit more..?

Will let you know how i go but it seems to drive OK (except when i test drove it, it ran out of fuel lol) and it definitely wont be a daily driver anyway

Will be driving it back from Geelong to Melbourne on Saturday so that will give me a better idea. Besides it only cost me $1000 so probably keep it as is for now.

    Cheers guys

Looks mint mate! Nice find. Perfect as a base for a project car (i.e. no rust)

Nice score, looks good in the pics.

Manual conversion is easy and the car is still original IMO.

$1000!!! I paid a lot more (prob too much) for my very clean, original '76 2-door. Nice job!

What an immaculate Mk1, I'm really jealous, even the chrome strips around the windows look new. Keep it garaged though as the early metallic paint didn't last long. You really need to dump the auto. If it was me, I would do a 1.8 or 2.0 8v 5 speed conversion. It will still look stock under the bonnet but would go a lot better, and then you need wheels, lower it a bit etc etc.
