    Better than stock

When I got my first mk1, I didnt have a parcel shelf at all... that was the least of the cars problems. Anyway, eventually dad and I made a solid timber/ply shelf that I varnished.

Eventually it got a few speakers in it.... ahh the old days of my youth I made some light ply door cars and covered them with black vinyl aswell - these actually are great and I expect will outlast the more than one mk1.

the problem with particle board is that its so heavy. If you can make it out of ply it will be much easier on the little plastic string hooks that lift it up from the hatch.

thanks guys for the positive comments
well when i first got mine, it had a parcel shelf but it was stuffed. so i took a pattern off of the original supports and cut it out of the particle board. my fear of using any material that was light and thin was that it would rattle a lot and annoy me. so i chose something that i knew wouldn't rattle and that could take the weight of my speakers and anything else i chuck on it. I guess if the plastic hooks break ill just replace them with something else. they seem to be pretty strong though.

10mm ply is very strong and light. (compared to 12mm particle board)
