I reckon leave it how it is for the time being.
I'd just go through and make slight improvements here and there.
ie. fix up the interior, get better brakes. sort out wiring. Perhaps if you're game rebuild the engine to some degree.
I'd use this car to learn about cars, rather than just "slamming it"*. Perhaps this golf will teach you alot about cars and how they work etc.
*I agree though, low golfs do look cool!![]()
on a mk1.... a lowering is a MUST! lol id buy a mk1 that has been professionally lowerd over a standard one, especially if it was lowerd on vww

Slam it mate!
I think he ment upgrade to bigger brakes, mk2 gti units for example, also by "sort out the wiring" i think he ment upgrade that too.
30yr old wiring can become problamatic, such problems include the battery explodinglol, but usaly things just start to work funny or stop working.
You might want to have a look in to the "Big 3" which is an upgrade of the main ground (battery to chassie, chassie to engine) and the alt to battery wires, if you need more info it can be found in the Audio section of the forum (no one stickied!).
I know that alot of people relay the highlight wiring so they can run higher wattage bulbs. Mk1s tend to have dull lighting and running higher wattage bulbs on a mk1 is not a good idea. The wiring is old and is not designed for it, it can cause fires.
I rekon slam it and do little improvements here and there.

Yea, that's pretty much what I meant, spyda.
there are so many things that can be improved and upgrade as well as maintained or restored/rebuilt!
so yea, slam it, and make it tidy!
