    My new Mk1 :)

    Hey everyone

I've been saving up for a VW for about a year now, so it was a huge surprise when I came home and found out that my boyfriend had bought me a 1977 Mk1 Golf!

It has some panel damage on the front left hand quarter - the bonnet, side panel, bumper and front bar all need to be replaced. There is rust in the boot floor, engine bay and a little on the driver's side door but it just looks to be surface rust.

It is mostly original, even down to the floor mats and the spare wheel (it looks like the jack has never been used).

The first thing we're going to do is take care of the rust and other things to get it registered. Then we'll focus on the interior and tidying it up. It may be resprayed a different colour but I haven't made a decision on that yet.

It's going to be a challenge at times since I'm at uni full time and have never done anything like this before. But I'm looking forward to restoring this car and learning a lot while doing it.

Nice, I have a few bits and bobs lying around, like the trim you're missing.

Gimme a shout when you get stuck into it.

    Good luck.

When I started going out with my girlfriend I bought her a MK1.

That was 30 years ago and we're still married.

    Just warning you.

    Cheers

    Paul

Wow that is so cool! I'm from Brissy as well, hopefully within a year I plan to seek out a MK1 too. Seriously keen to get my hands on one and experience a car project. Awesome find
