Small update
Picked up a GT40R coil and resistor cheap brand new.
Fitted it this arvo, turned key and it started.. goodo.
Just went out now to move car and it wont fire up. being dark i cant fiddle, but everything is connected and nothing is happening.
Curious to know if having a resistor has dropped the volts too much to make it start when cold?
Volts gauge is reading just over 12.3v when ignition on. dunno if that helps or not, and drops to around 10ish when cranking.
Edit, think i got it.
There a wire runing from fusebox to coil + which has a built in resistor, and ive gone and added a external resistor. so this would lower the voltage again yes?
If so is the GT40R suited?
Going to borrow a multimeter and do some testing tomorrow
