The best fix for the brake switch is to attach an on/off switch to the brake pedal arm so every time you push down the switch comes on.

Much better than the original switch which can become quite temperamental.

Good luck with MK1, one of the few cars in the world that can be really annoying and so much fun at the same time.

    Cheers

Paul's right, have a look in Pete Jones' brake upgrade thread, he's got all the info you'll need there for what to do. You can asily get a brake pedal switch from a later golf, or just pop down to repco and find a switch that'll work.

Cheers Elton, is it a 2" at the collector?

Managed to drive the car back to my parents house without any incidents hah.

Drove my DC2R back to my apartment and it was such a massive difference. The throw on the GTI is so long I have to lean forward to get into the 3rd haha. Thought the gearbox in my dc2 was broken because it felt so short in comparison.

So I started ordering some parts for the car to get her to a RWC state.

I ordered a new speedo clock face from this mob: Tachoscheibe Tachofolie Tacho Folie Scheibe Meilen Km/h VW Golf 1 MPH zu KMH, 79,99 €

The car has a aus spec cabbie speedo face in it so its about 30km/h out. When Im doing 130kmh on the speedo, im actually doing 100kmh. Hopefully with this, I can avoid any future speeding tickets

It might not be the fault of the speedo. The gearing for the speedo cable drive in your gearbox might be wrong for your car. This usually happens when you swap from a 4 speed to a 5 speed box.

A new speedo may only duplicate the problem.

Im pretty sure Mark said he swapped out the speedo clock face. The original has the UK MPH speedo with the small KPH underneath.

But from looking at where the needle sits when im doing a "real" 100kph, it lines up to where it should read 60MPH on a UK speedo.

    Trial and error i suppose.

Not much of an update but my dad sent me this photo of the car in the garage. Think he wants a drive haha!

She needs a good clean to get rid of the all the dead bugs and road grime we collected along the way home from up North.

Took the old girl for a drive today. Started up first go after sitting for a week

I was going to wash her and stick the side stripes on but it started pouring, so a job for next weekend.

I'm still deciding what to do with the DIN space - whether to install a headunit or place some gauges there. The car currently has a volts, clock, and water temp gauge in the centre console so I would ideally install a oil press/temp gauge.
