nice start, looks like it will be fun
Hey guys, never done a build thread and hoping no one will expect this to be lengthy or fastidious. This car is purely for some track fun. no major paint work / detailed repairs etc will be found on this thread!
Aydan posted up his beloved mk1 1977 LS golf that had been sitting for a while.
The car had been fitted with a strong 1.8 RV with a juicy 40mm Dellorto hanging off of it. She goes great but the current 4 speed feels a little crunchy. Luckily for me, Aydan was an absolute champ. Along with the car he threw in a bunch of extras including a 5 speed box and 100mm Driveshafts.
My plans are to get the little golf to stop and steer as well as she goes with intentions to take it down to local track days for some fun.
After picking the car up and taking her home i started on doing a really rough and quick job of removing any surface rust and swapping the hatch over.
The roof probably had the most spots but nothing deep.
I started with some 80 grade to knock the oxide off. and feathered out with some 180grade
After that I dug up some K&H rust converter and primer. This stuff works really well in treating rust and as the title says, you can paint straight over it.
Anyway skip forward about 45 mins and you can see the primer over the rest.
Next week - Plasti Dip and hopefully the gearbox, nolethane bushes and coilovers.
Cheers!
nice start, looks like it will be fun

Mark, Cheers mate, send me another, didn't receive anything?
Picked up my PlastiDip paint today. awesome product. the guy gave me a handful of free cans so i tested abit out on the guard. God it is bright.
The stuff comes out brighter than my fluro work shirt..
will clean up a few other bits n pieces on her and give her a coat or 5!
i'll also be ordering in a clutch kit and some other bits this week to make time on the hoist worth it.
bonnet will be replaced as i found one hiding in the garage along with 5 brand new rear bars
good luck with the build! your front bar looks in VGC. will subscribe to thread
Nice one Benny, I'm surprised to c u straying away from the beetle your finally working on the right car now :-P
Watch fluro colours they tend to fade in the UV but damn that is bright
looking forward to your progress !
will be good to see!
Work has been a killer and haven't had much time to play with le golf.
Till today.
workshop is occupied with cars so had to work in the driveway sniffle.
Pulled the front wheels off and found these oh so tiny calipers attempting to pull the car up.
pulled of the lower control arms and shocks at the same time
changed them over to a setup aydan passed on, with nolethane bushes and much bigger brakes.
little bit of paint here and there just to keep leaks etc noticeable ( thanks to the missus as my painter today )
walked into the garage and found these sitting up against the back wall.. so tempting.. brand new.
Had abit of trouble deciding which wheel paint combo looks best. kinda hate them both at the moment..
im now thinking maybe just the outter lip to be orange?
keep in mind this will be the colour of the whole car eventually.
Anyway. thats the short update.
Coilovers, brakes, new bonnet, new bushes and some paint
guys please let me know what you think looks best for the wheels, all feedback and suggestions welcome! These are 14"x7 wide steelies.
Outer lip and inside of the VW symbol on the centre would be my bet.
