Not trying to prove that the car's not perfect, just wondering because it's most likely been garaged it's entire life by one owner with respect for it.
I was hoping that question wasn't asked its got the cracked dash option from factory haha, its not to bad though seen much worse $400 will see it fixed see how things go. I don't know how far ill go pretty happy with its current state i do have my 2door costing me a small fortune LOL, the diesel is just a muck around car really until i get my 2door back on the road.

Looks grouse. Glad someone picked it up, looked imac in the ad and even better now!

Chuck some 10mm spacers on the back and don't worry about the 5 speed, they get along just fine with a 4speed!
Ive put in 3mm spacers front and rear can't go anymore without guard rolling. I started to roll the guards but paint is starting to crack ( due to it being resprayed ) on the underside and will spread to the outside if i roll them fully so have to leave as is. It doesn't scrub at all so il just leave it, not keen on the idea of cutting the guards its risky easy slip and damage paint and body ive done this before LOL

    Thanks for the comment again.

Ha it seems that no MK1 dashboard has stood the test of time.
What sort of business are you using for the dash repair?

    Holy cow!

Unbelievable how nice that is. Seems like many GLD's keep well, because either the diesel owners are a bit strange, or the cars turn the owners that way... probably a bit of both. Great car. Brilliant!

Theres a few companies around that specilize in dash restorations haven't looked into it yet, but a while back someone on here had one done for a mk1 cost $400 in brisbane somewhere. Just going to though a decent dash mat on it for now, it doesn't bother me that much atm.

I work for a plastics company. I'm wanting to get a hold of a cracked dash off any car, and see how long it takes me to repair it, what I need to use and what it would cost me.
When I know I'd start offering services.

Wouldn't be hard, and would be awesome, to pull the dash out, grind/sand/cut down the raised crack sections, then glue leather/alcantara/suede over it.
But MK1 dashes sag in the middle too if I'm not mistaken. Repairing the structure of a badly sagged one would be a bit harder.

Anyway, looks like that's all you need to do to perfect the car. Concours-condition then?

Ive been told the processes to do the repair, im capable of doing 95% on my own Ive built a custom dash for a mk1 from scratch before. Id rather keep the factory look and get the dash reskined, its like a heat shrink type deal keeps the factory look rather than re trimmed look. Retrimmed look wouldn't suit this car, Im getting my 2door gti dash retrimmed in leather with polished timber inserts thats for another thread

Here is the dash i built.

If you plan on doing any highway driving a 5-speed is a must. I have one out of a seat cordoba, its a CHB code i think and it has perfect ratios for the 1.5D. 1st and 2md are a little taller, 3rd and 4th are the same as the GC 4-speed. 5th makes cruising at 110 comfortable, 140 possible.
