Awesome find!...I'm surprised stuff like that is still out there.
The '79 GLD I had was mars red...the photo with the cool dog in post #53 is closer to what the colour actually looks like.
Did many GLD's come with that seat material? the two I had were cloth (one chocolate, the other tan).

I should have a few GLD alternator brackets lying about.

    Am considering a Mk1 GLD.
It needs to travel a loong way home, and am thinking of driving it. But needs a new driver's side headlight, and the owner says the shockies are too gone for country trips. Am looking at what a light costs, but if anyone know off the top, that would be great.

    Trip is Adelaide to Brisvegas.
    Also looking at truck transport.
All views welcome. Its a 1980, done 195,000ks I am told.
    Looks straight but uncared for.

Also the Treasurer wants to know about after-market air-con.
Has anyone fitted one to a Mk1 GLD?
I am thinking electric rather than belt drive compressor, and bodgy the in cabin stuff from a wrecker.

Plan is for a fun daily drive, nothing flash, but with character.

I might have to hit you up for one when she gets back, by the way the passat looked amazing this weekend too.

I wouldn't risk that long of a trip but then again I'm mechanically retarded. Cost me $600 to ship mine from WA to Melbourne.
And I think as a daily they work well mine only crapped out cos it was left standing for so long(again why I would be hesitant to take that long trip)

    Whubbsie,
Thanks, and will be maxing my luggage quota and setting off metal detectors if I do fly over to pick it up.

Edit: Seems i need a glass lens, I am a total newbie at Mk1's. I thought they had a sealed beam

Are GLD alt brackets smaller length than the petrol ones?
