    Nah, not being boring, its very much a rarity to see an original untouched Mk1 now and its those that will be worth more in the future. History shows...
    Ask Dom how much the previous owner paid for the Golf he now owns. Big Bucks!!
    If I had a chance these days I would grab a dead original Mk1 and put it away. Hmmm, maybe I am a very boring person. Thanks Josh

    don't worry mate I ain't going to chop it up or do something thats not reversable, the worse I'm going to do is put it on coilovers and put some wheels on it and then drive it... not heaps but it's there to enjoy and just staring at it makes me look crazy
    But for the most part I'm going to fix the bits that need fixing and leave it.

    I'd like to take Dom's direction and have it as low and as wide as this.



    but I think might have to save that for then next one. anyone got a 2door shell they want to sell me for nix

    I have to agree..

    You can fix something up that's in bad nick but it will never be the same as an original.

    Its ok to dump and burn an old Golf which hasc already been tampered with,
    knock up the guard lips ect, muck about with it ect. ect.
    It makes the mint original ones stand out then which this red one does.
    And yes, nice set of wheels and a little lower would look good but generally I reckon people go over the top.

    Got a question figured my own thread would be best to ask in.

    3 chamber headlights basiclly have a built in fog light and driving light right?? how hard would it be to mod either the fog or driving light into indicators? could I just re route the existing wiring to the head light?

    I mean the lights like the ones in the pic below but just clear lenses not yelow

    had a mechanic come down and have a look at the old girl, he put the new waterpump in, found that the alternator is on some ****ty diy brackets that bent and has the alternator out of line and what I thought was an oil leak is actually a diesel leaking from the injectors.

    anyone know around how much that should be costing me to fix

    stock GLD alt brackets are also bad and prone to a known failure, hence the many DIY jobs out there. you could try and source a standard bracket (i know my dad has several, albeit broken ones) but they are'nt hard to "fix".

    leaking injector... well where's it leaking from? its common for them to leak fuel from the rubber return hoses. try replacing those first (since it costs nearly nothing for a foot of 3mm fuel hose). after that - it could be hte injector bodies are leaking - this is likely due to them being rebuilt shabiliy in the past.... but really, give the whole engine a degrease and then take it for a drive and start again - you cant fix something without knowing the problem very easily
