Both 8v and 16v bolt straight in with Mk1 mounts.
Fuelling is the hard part with either conversion.
Hi guys,
I was thinkin about a 2.0L 8v convertion in my mk1 from a mk3.
Does the engine just fit right in, is it a easy convertion to do?
Would a 16v convertion be cheaper/better.
Basicly what are the pros and cons?
oh and what power does the 2L produce, due to new laws it cant be "performance" and 125kw per tonne.

As far as putting it into a mk1, there's no problem, but you'll need to get specifics off the other guys!!!
And my sales pitch - I got a motor for you, Mk3 2L 8v with 85kw standard...86,000kms on the clock... Make an offer

On a scale from 1 to 10 how hard? I would realy like to do it myself, hands on approach. (with help from dad and a few mechanic mates)
What do you think, to hard?
Thanks mate, just trying to get the knowledge at the moment. We where actaly planing to get a smashed mk3 and do it that way, with breaks, 'box and all in one.
If it doesnt work out ill know where to go![]()
Any more info guys? Anything you've got would be sweet.

You need to do it properly with the dianostic port and emissions control, otherwise you can never know if it's running at 100%. In other words, you're far better off to get a complete donor car and swap everything across - this is also WAY easier than splicing a Mk3 engine loom into a Mk1 fuse box. Far more modern and reliable too.
Very easy. You shouldn't even need wiring diagrams, because you just label everything as it comes out of the donor car
Not the greatest swap in terms of performance, though.

...That said, you could run it on carb/s, and so avoid the digifant altogetherI think that's the best part, though.

Whats digifant?
Awsome thanks mate![]()
Valver you say not a great convertion in terms of performance. I just want it to go harder then the 1.6 in there now and maby take down some ricers, represent! Will it be able to do that at least?
How much power will it make with a few little mods like full exhaust, port and polish, etc?
