    Mk1 Wheels & Tyres

    Gents

Bought some 15x6 wheels, snowflakes design for my mk1 and looking at tyre options.

Wheels are ET38s and have KW V1 coilovers to go in.

Looking at 195/45 tyres but want to avoid rubbing - might need spacers

any thoughts on the ideal tyre combo?

    Cheers

195 45 is a nice looking tyre on a 7j rim, but the rolling diameter is smaller than the stock 175 70r13 (resulting in about 4% speedo error).

ET38 will be tight with a 195. My guess would be that around 10mm spacer would be required. You could potentially space these by 25mm without fitment issues.

I recently got some 15x7 ET39 wheels which will be running 195 50 tyres, and I'm expecting to space them 10-25mm to get the right fitment and clearance to the coilovers. I am currently running 15x7 ET13 with 195 45 and they are tight against the guards.

When spacing, do it right. Hubcentric with either longer bolts or bolt on adaptors.

As for ideal tyre size, 6j can take anywhere from 165-205. I'd be aiming for around 175 55 or 185 55 for a factory look without spacing.

    I wasn't aware snowflakes came in a 15...

Cheers for the insight - think you are right, avoiding spacers is the way to go.
