    MK1 Wheels

After opinions of the best size for alloy/mag wheels for a MK1...

Probably depends on wheel design, but noticed a few nice sets being offered for sale in recent weeks....is 16" too big for a Mk1?

    cheers

    Why are the 13"s good?

I have heard other people say this, but not sure why....

(I must admit that I am going up to Sydney this weekend to pick up a set of 13" Cheviot Hotwire wheels Can't wait to get them on!)

I personally find 13s too small unless your sump is on the ground!

I found 15s to be fine and they are legal.

However ill be running 16s which fill the guards completely and still give good clearence with bit of tucking.

13s look good in photos taken low to the ground, but look absolutely rubbish on the Euro show cars in real life - trust me

You also wind up with control arms at 45deg angles!

I bought some wide 14s, but with the 'right looking' tyre, the car needs to sit down very low to look good.

15s are probably the best alrounder, and I still have a nice set I would have bought more, but the custom wheels I bought were another price bracket up in 15" size and I couldn't justify it... and didn't have it to throw away

15x7 is a good choice if you're balancing looks, performance and budget. You need to pay extra for 195/45/15 tyres, though. 195/50s are rubbish.

Good luck with guard clearance!!! I ran 15x6s on most of my mk1s including my competition Golf with hard suspension and on my road cars, it was very hard to stop rubbing., The very least you will have to do is knock up the lips on the guards, to start with.
15s are the ultimate size for the Mk1, definately no bigger. and also think suspension mods!!!

    Like these Cam.

Excuse the massive tyres, that being said they are lower profile than whats on my standard rims! And they are only 13x7
