    Mk1 Wheel Sizes

Probably an old subject guys, so point me in the right direction of another thread if need be (i did a search).

I'm looking at new alloys for the Mk1. I've been checking out the starmags:

    7 x 13" JBW Starmag Black - 4x100 | Golf (4x100 Pcd) | 7 x 13 | JBW - Starmag | JBW - John Brown Wheels | Alloy Wheels / Tyres

but they only do a 13 inch.

I have another car which has 16's on the front and 17's on the rear.

Is it possible/recommended to do similar with the Mk1? ie: 13 front and 14 rear? Or does everyone stick to the same size all round?

Generally everyone runs the same size diameter wheel, so I'd say it's recommended to do that.

But i'm not going to stop you from doing it...

As long as the overall rolling diameter is the same front and rear you shouldn't have a problem, but i see no benefit in it

depends on the "look" I reckon.... can look sex on a beetle.... could work on a mk1 but it would certianly take some effort to make it look right - wheel choice, heights, offsets and tyres, and the rest of the styling.

just looked at your link OP - those wheels wouldnt half poke some at ET6!

Haha! Yeah seen that one, that's the drag-mobile!

I was checking out the ET variance with that tool:

Custom rims, wheel tire packages for your ride - RIMSnTIRES.com

It says it would stick out a further 1.7". It could be too close yeah, but I reckon there would be almost enough room as they are. The wheels on at the moment have quite a bit of clearance?

Here's a car with them on, albeit I don't know what the offset is, but it looks about where I'd expect them to be on mine...
