    mk1 vr6 conversion?

    ive got a mk1 gti with a 2.1L currently in it. i was planing to do a 20v turbo conversion but i have decided to keep my car aspirate.. whats involved in doing a vr6 conversion on the mk1.. will the exsisting gearbox bolt onto the vr6 block or not??? i noe its a biggggg conversion. any one interested in buying a fully rebuilt 20v turbo???

    The Mk1 has no subframe, so you need to fabricate one and stra\engthen the chassis to put the VR6 in. It will bolt straight into any Mk2, 3 or Seat, so thats easier. Why not do the 20vT conversion? How much do you wanna sell the motor for? The VR6 wont bolt to you gearbox, and you`ll need a hydraulic clutch. Phew. Its been done, but only by professionals and it took them ages.

    its not that crazy a conversion. but it does require a fair amount of fabrication. Its something that im toying with doing as i have a spare low km VR6 engine now. Would need a gearbox tho.

    Altho if u look thru the images. There might be some steering rack clearance issues on a right hand drive car.

    um im lookinh to sell the 20v turbo for round 3000.. my dads a mechanic and we were planning to buy a whole front cut of the vr6... any more mods that we would come across with the vr6 converion??
    i got 14.2 down the quater with it.. and its still 8v with mechanical injection..

    Hi mate, have a look at www.vwcaddy.com as there is a few very good write up's on fitting a VR6 into a caddy/MK1.
