Nice post; maybe it's just me but if you went to all of that effort would you leave stock drum brakes on the rear of the car? Not to mention how scary it would be stopping a little car with all that grunt on drums.......

The drums are only on the rear, and frankly have reasonably little effect in mk 1's, since they're so light, most of the stopping power is dealt with through the front brakes, which have been upgraded to mk 3 2L spec. By the looks of it, he's also upgrade the master cyl and booster as well.
It'd have a good 150-160 HP (I'm assuming it's standard except for carbs and exhaust), which is enough to get up and mumbo, but imho, not too much for the brakes to handle.
As for the car. I saw that thread ages ago, and I couldn't believe it. Take mk 1's to a whole new level, and makes the rest of us look like amatures! (well, me atleast)
With any show car or any car build you look and say why did he do that?? or why didn't he do that?? Ive been around long enough and built a couple of cars to varying degrees theres, always a reason of some kind why things are done they way they are. Money and skill set is major factors in any build.
I'm currently building my Mk1 3dr to the best of my ability with limited outside help, people have already question the things i am doing.
I doubt it would have 160 HP, J man.
I know where you're coming from, revnit. Your skill set and background varies how you will approach a problem. And it also affects what you will change, by how much and what you think is acceptable.
