So ive come across these 2 canisters. One ive identified as a porsche 914 oem evaporative canister and the other as a vacuum canister in the front right guard. What are their purpose and can i delete them?? Cant find anything in my haynes manual about them

They are part of the anti-pollution gear originally fitted to the car. Very old and antiquated system, best to leave it off.

Assume your brakes are solidddisk, if so can't comment. However 239mm vented are more than adequate for road use even if running with more power. Mk3 booster and 22mm mc is a worthwhile upgrade, makes a big difference.

But definately going down the road of a mk3 booster and mc
From what I've been able to work out, if you already have 239mm disc's, then changing to vented disc's is as easy as just putting them on the hub, and fitting the correct pads (or 20% worn solid disc pads will work too).
Both brake setups share the same caliper...

Oh really?? Can anyone confirm that? I was aware that the vented mk1 brakes used the kelsey-hayes caliper, also called the mk2 type caliper

The calipers are different. The GTI ones are bigger both in surface area and width to fit over the much thicker GTI disks. They use the same mounting points so an upgrade consists of disk and calipers. Standard MK1 calipers won't fit over MK1 GTI disks.

They make a big difference to the stopping power over standard disks.

    Cheers

Yeah and mk3 polos have them. But you can't get carriers from polos because they're integrated into the hub
