NO! Vacuum line has to advance the dizzy as the engine goes faster. If you connect it to the manifold it will suck (advance) when the engine is running and the throttle is closed. Definately not what you want!

The vacuum line comes off the carby. Look for a connection outside the carby that goes all the way through the carby to the throat. As the air is sucked through the carby throat it creates a vacuum in this line which operates the vacuum advance on the dizzy.

Got it buddy managed to find it, was blocked off with brass plug.

Its been a long road of learning and learning as ive pulled it apart. Motors on a stand, replacing gaskets, body is getting there its just the typical 'dream come true' process haha
Do you fellas ever do regular meet ups or anything? Just keen to meet people that have that veedub passion in their veins

    Check the social pages.

In Canberra there's a few of us that get together occasionally but I'm not sure about the Melbourne scene, must be something going on regularly apart from the big VW shows.

Speaking of which, when is the next one happening? with my golf finally running and all i want to show it to you properly before it dies again..

The ragtop looks mad! theyre so much fun to build and so easy to figure out, just a pain trying to source parts ($650 for a set of small bumpers isnt really cheap)
But no really, I like to look distinguished when I step out of the car. People are like, "wonder what he does for living."
I just reply, "your daughter, sir." - some dude on stanceworks

I had fixed half the broken crap but that just meant it was still halfway inoperable

Your car is looking great, you should be proud of your efforts.

There's heaps of people here willing to give advice. Just keep the questions coming and don't be afraid to ask dumb questions. I ask them all the time and occasionally I get an answer totally from left field that makes me realise how little I know.

Have you checked out the social pages to see if there's any meets close to you? You should also go to the the big VW shows to talk to other MK1 owners.

    Cheers

    Paul

Aaaand, broken oil pickup noticed the sump was pretty bashed. Do the sumps and oil pick ups from mk2 and mk3 1.6/1.8 bolt straight on?
