Head is from an early JH solid lifter code engine.

Definately fuel injected but not GTI specification . A lot of folks think because its running K jet its a GTI, this is not so. Other internal engine parameters come to play such as Cam spec, compression, Ignition timing etc...

What is the conrod centre to centre length ??

    Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

    Cheers,

Mk1 cabby head? Hmm what else sets it aside from the gti head apart from cam? The rod length center-center is 144. Bottom end is in good nick. Even has fresh hone marks

From what I read on ETKA the cam is the only difference in the head assembly.

Rods are short block @ 144 mm c-c length, so you can use the std hose + timing belt.

If you are re-ringing the pistons run the hone through the bore to deglaze then wash extremely thoroughly to remove all abrasive. Leaving it as it is will increase the chances of ring seal failure at some point in the future. ( crankcase blow by etc)

Check dullness of the bores in this pic., that is fresh honing.

Definately planning on honing the bores and re ringing. Might as well be a thorough as possible. And definately planning on running an aggressive cam. Im also keen on maybe shaving the head a little more for a bit more compression but the idea of relying on my own calculations bothers me haha

Gave the valves and all a good clean too, now for a bit of shopping

Few questions though, techtonic tuning doesnt seem to have mk3 1.8 piston rings. Are the mk2 1800 rings the same? And does the mk2 1.8 headgasket and gasket set work on the mk3?
Does the 190mm clutch hold up with the 1.8 motor?

Definately keen on this. Might be abit harsh for a daily but hopefully can get used to it. What are the side effects of such an aggressive cam?

Piston rings are likely the same but best to be sure. A quick / lengthy google session should tell you if the part numbers are the same or different. Also, techtonics probably isn't the best place to get rings. When I got mine I bought them Oem, from a eBay supplier in Europe. Then again, I've never used any techtonics internals so aren't the best to ask.

As for high duration cams for daily driving, the main side effect is no power or torque until 5000 rpm. It's like slapping on a big turbo with heaps of lag.

Why not buy a new cam? They can be sourced for around 350ish and then you have complete choice of duration, lift, LCA, overlap etc etc.

With a big cam, get some valve springs. Autotech supply a great set for around 100, rated to 8000 rpm.

Nice head btw. Need to see her again

No way would I use that size cam on the street
I have that one just a little bigger and consider it race only

I would ook for something around 256 advertised maybe 270 if you are really keen, and lobe centre around 108

I was kind of kidding, it doesn't really work below about 5000 RPM. Not a street cam at all.

In any case it's gone up to Queensland to go into a race car now.
