Not always so expensive.
I bought door handle gaskets and trim clips from a dealerships spare parts, worked out to be like $1.20 or $2.00 each. Had to come from Germany though.

Alot of the time its luck of the draw, example thermostats for mk1 are interchangable with models up to mk3 so theres lots of them and there not that expensive
oil, air, fuel filters aren't expensive unless you have something like an R50
I was surprised that strut bearings are NLA. They're sorta a service item haha.
yes but there must be several aftermarket options OR there have been very little sales so they wont remanufacture
It can't really be demand... surely. This kind of stuff is not what most mk1 owners these days care about. Its all very well to sell 1/4 vent rubbers for $245 each, but no-one has working 1/4 vent window mechanisms... so everyone tries to retrofit fixed 1/4 windows instead, which don't leak or fall out. I think there'll be a lot of 1/4 vent window rubbers sitting in a dusty place in vw stores for a long time to come, at least at those prices.
I do however thank the OP for making this available to us. Its nice to have someone thinking of the mk1 crowd![]()

VW: it aint just a car, its a way of life
There are few things more satisfying in life than finding a solution to a problem and implementing it
