    Mk1 Indicator Help!!

Hi all, the Mk1 Golf I brough ('76) a few weeks ago has a prob with the indicators... Here goes, It has an alarm installed (before I got it) and the indicators all flash when arming/dis-arming or when set off...BUT when used on the indicator stalk or hazard swith, it ackonwledges on the dash that they are on, but they dont register at the corners... I dont know if the fuse box is diff between my '76 golf Ls and my '77 golf Cabby but in the golf (one with probs) it has newer type blade fuses and 4 relays yet and looks original, but the Cabby's are old ceramic type...

Ok, I figure that the stalk works as there is power to the indicator on the dash... I have individually pulled each of the relays at one at a time to find which one is the "flasher relay" but the dash indicator is still on, meaning that its not one of those relays??? I also put the new flasher relay in to any old spot it would fit, but still no better... I also checked all the fuses and they all seem fine...

Any idea what else it could be??? I do work as an apprentice mech at a ford dealership, so have access to tools, hoists and trade priced parts (most of the time...Also when I brought it it had aftermaket (but similar and still german) Tail lights and sport sterring wheel...

Any one have any ideas??? Faulty Earth???

    Thanx heaps in advance...
    Ash

Definitely the indicator fluid! Easy fix, and it's only about $5 from Autobarn. Just ask for it at the counter!

The fuse box is very different from a 76er to a 77 onwards one mate. Not interchangeable.

Yer they are both very different, the thing that confuses the hell out of me is the 76 has a "newer looking" fuse box, with fuses like you'd expect in a modern car... The newer 77 has an older looking fuse box with old style ceramic type fuses...

Your 76 has a later fusebox installed. does it have a cabrio dash?

They should both have the cigar shaped early fuses.

I dont really know mate, dunno much at this stage about golfs...

BUT, i do know that my cabby has round style speedo, but a clock? in place of where the tacho would normally be...The Golf Ls (76) on the other hand DOES have a tacho and a speedo and they are square shaped guages, if that helps...

I have just got a new workshop manual for it so will see if it has any additional info on the dashs and let you know if it is the same as whats in mine...

    Thanx for the replies guys...
