Exclamation mk1 has started to idle really low. help?!

Hi guys, just wondering if I could probe any ones knowledge and ask if they know why my mk1 has started to idle very low over the last two days? idle rpm has dropped from roughly 7-800rpm to 3-400rpm now. i do know that my throttle cable is stretched to buggery, but wasnt sure if that wuld case such a drop in idle? as far as driving the car, nothing appears to have changed?
all the timing belt and gaskets and head has been very recently donepretty much everything but the carby wastouched.. could this be my problem? my mechanical knowledge is only very limited at the moment so any help would be greatly appreeciated. ill also consult my haynes manjal when i get home too.. hopefully that could shex some light on my problems too..
also, appogies for any spelling mistakes, im typing this from mh phone!
    thanks!

You can look at the accelerator cable adjuster at the carby end or you can adjust the idle screw, both in the Haynes manual.

    Cheers
I ended up having a look when I got home, and worked it out myself. Probably should have done that in the first place haha..
But yeah, car is idling much happier now
    Cheers though!

Out of interest, what was the problem in the end Byron? Was it your cable or something else?

Was both, the cable is a bit stretched so that's been tightened a bit, and the idle screw was adjusted. Sounds much happier now once the car is warmed up properly
