Mk1 GTI Goodness

So a few of you know that I have a genuine imported Mk1 GTI that has been at the paintshop for nearly a year. Bloody Panelbeaters!

Anyway, it is finally painted and I got it back today.

Here are some pics of it arriving.







Its a 1979 Model, last of the small taillights, first year of the 5 speed. 1.6 Heron Motor. It has plastic bumpers and the hard plastic dash.
It has done 94,000miles and I have every MOT it ever had. It came to Oz in 98.

Mechanically it was running a year ago, so shouldnt need too much work.
Only mods will be suspension, wheels and exhaust.

It has the early red striped interior and its perfect. It has been on a shelf in the workshop for a year, got it down today and cleaned it. Was good to get the space back I also have new headlining. This car is gonna be back together fast.

What colour is that Matt? Meteor Grey? Those 1600s rev well.

The colour was supposed to be diamond silver metallic, but this is darker.

I waited long enough though, I`m not taking it back.

It looks good in the sun though.

Yes i like the 1600 GTIs Gav, should be great.

One more year and it can go on club rego too

Put the rear windows in and had these 13x6 bbs kicking around. The offset is perfect. Put some knonis and springs in too.

Yeah and if i remember right they go great with the single butterfly throttle body, and yeah they do rev well.

I was thinking that this wasn't to far off after being told about it somewhat along time ago.

Alway's had a soft spot for the serie's 1 Mk1's with the tarten interior.

I said to myself, if an early mk1 gti (steel bar version) came up in the same condition as my campaign (pre injury!), I'd be prepared to straight swap for it.

I'll be keeping an eye out for it. You should get it down here for the DOVW.
