Good stuff again mate, I saw the Golf briefly on TV yesterday at the end of the Targa West show. Good job going against those Porsches.
Hey Volksee, Sounds very very interesting, I can't wait to see it when it's finished mate. We would love to see pictures of the build process as it happens.
Wrest Point is now full with 165 entries, we were lucky enough to secure the 163rd spot so we're stoked. The car gets shiped off to Victoria on the 24th of November for Mt Buller Sprint and then straight down to David's place in Hobart to wait until we arrive at the end of January for Wrest Point, then it will get serviced, new tyres and setup for Targa Tas that we will fly back down for at the end of April. The bloody thiings spending so much time down there I'm tempted just to put it on Tas Rally rego.
You might be interested to know that the rumour doing the rounds currently is that there will be an announcement next week that the AASA has brought Octagon and Mtn Motorsports together in a partnership to form the Australian Tarmac Rally Championship which will be made up of Mt Buller Sprint , Targa Wrest Point, Lake Mountain Sprint & Targa Tasmania with three rounds counting towards the championship. It would be great to see you guys involved next year though I know the costs of entry, shipping the car over and travel are prohibitive.
Hopefully at some stage in the future they can come to an arrangement with Targa West to include that in the championship as well, all this CAMS / AASA hassling around doesn't do anyone any good. Regardless both David in his R32 in showroom an Marti and I in our R32 in M2C2 are seriously thinking of shipping the cars over in August and taking part in Targa West so we will keep you guys posted.
Looking forward to seeing a heap of pictures of the build and some more actions ones of the event if you have them.
Cheers Al

My Mk1 Project
To echo everyone else's comments, good job! I also caught a few glimpses of the red and black rocket![]()
tHANKS FOR ALL THE WELL WISHES GUYS, WE FEATURED QUITE A BIT ON THE EARLY TV COVERAGE SO WAS PRETTY STOKED WITH THAT. Thanks for all the support Al, I'm currently building a new motor for the car to have a bit more go in the next few events so heopefully i'll have that up and running shortly. I would love to come and do Targa Tas but my work is flat out at the moment and i can't see them giving me the time off if it keeps up like it is but hey you never know what could happen. My biggest focus right now is to get the new motor built and ensure it complies with mk1 FIA homologation rules. Will be good to see if we can legally get over 200hp from a mk1 homologated engine, i have been shopping and it is looking positive so far that we can get over 230 so look out porsches a VW is coming for you

oh yeah AL congrats on the wrest point spot mate, that was a close one. I'm hoping to take my 911 in Mt Buller next year but time and budget my be a handbrake. Hard to decide where to go and in which car when you have a capable 911 and a more than capable golf

Sweet can't wait to see the motor build up thread mate, I'm sure I speak for the rest of the thread when I say lots of pics for all of us please and it will be great to see you screaming past the Porsche's in next years event. As the others have said it was great to see you featured in the broadcast and the car looked the business. Thanks for the kind words on Targa Wrest Point and Targa Tas, if it wasn't for David living down there and having the R32 team in showroom, the service crews and logistics sorted already there is no way we would be able to do it so we owe him a huge thanks.
Hopefully we can get him to commit to doing Targa West and then we could have VW's in Modern, Showroom and Classic and then you could join us back on this side for 2011.
Looking forward to following the motor build.....
Cheers Al

I agree Al it is super handy having someone local for these events as it just isn't possible to properly compete out of a hotel room and parc ferme, aka car parks. Hopefully the car and myself gain speed with experience and we can have a full attack on the classic tarmac championship they have set up. I may just come to Tassie to watch next year if i can't get the car over and i'll look you up Al, as for pictures i will post some up of the engine when i next venture to the workshop and when i have some progress but i will keep some in reserve till it's proved up and making the power, no point crowing if we can't make the horses.
P.S. would anyone be interested in a KR turbo manifold, KO3 turbo and wastegate setup?? it is currently on my motor but i can't use it in competition due to homologation rulings. PM me offers on the complete set up

To remain homologated, will you still have to run a O2O box ???
just been removing the 1.8T from the A4 cut today![]()
Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...
If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??
Cheers,
Grant...
yeah i know and am spewing, still looking toward a later model 020 though Grant, maybe a late model TDi one as they are a bit stronger but still "technically" the same gearbox wink wink, same as the 16V engine i'm running, tracked down the rare as hens teeth VW golf 16s (Oettinger) homologation papers so i can run a 16 valve in the car and remain in classic
