Mk1 Golf Tail Lights

Question for those in the know?? The early Mk1 Golf appear's to have a smaller rear tail light's than earlier models. Why and when did they change this. Is it only related to the GTI or was it lower models also? Any info would be great....Thanks.

are you talking early as in swallowtail or early as in pre 80??

IIRC they're all the same till they changed to big tails in 80 or 81 i believe

Do you mean, the early Mk1's appear to have smaller tail lights than the later models? if so, yes they do. the tail lights got bigger in 79/80 or something.

Yeah that's it, Was just wondering why the change in the late 70's and early 80's to larger tail lights??

it was a model update, post 80's had different interiors and dash's too i believe, along with the big tail lights. also a few other changes that aren't so noticeable
