It’s been a while but I’ll try and let the pictures do the talking on the limited progress

I had some rust on the RHS Sill outer, managed to cut the rust out, repair with new steel and paint the inside of the sill while I had access.

I made the repair it two sections to prevent any distortion in the sill.

    Inside the painted sill

Once I finished the sill repair I wanted to finish getting the body back to bare metal, 80 grit sand, then etch and 2-3 cots of primer. I’ll only start sanding the primer once I get round to the painting stage.

I know these back corners can rust out from the inside out so I carefully cut a section out to check, repair if needed clean and paint before welding the section back in. It turned out the LHS was is great nick but the RHS needed repair.

I bought a repair section and cut out what I needed, welded in and tidied up with some filler. The section on the back panel had to be fabricated.

    New battery panel welded in

Preparation for coating the underside, wheelarchs, sills and lower portion of back panel in stone ship.

I allowed the stone chip to cover ½ of the wheelarch flange

Oh I also bought a Nissan TRX as a cheap run around to get me to work and back.. I quite like it.

I’ve made a start cleaning the fuel tank for fresh paint

    Brake setup too

Rebuilding the rear beam and brakes

The backplates were really rusty. After watching loads of videos on youtube were guys remove rust with cheap household vinegar I thought I’d give it a go.

I submerging the backplates in 80 cents worth of vinegar for a week before giving them a pressure wash they came up a treat!

I also cleaned up some nuts and bolts with the same method although it can and does strip the electroplating which is probably a bad thing.

I painted the backplates in etch primer followed with a black enamel

Rear beam cleaned and painted in a PPG chassis satin black. I’m pleased with the results I think it looks similar to the factory finish. New handbrake cable also fitted.

I’ll probably fit all new shoes, drums, springs and central hub/shaft as this is quite badly worn. I do this after a road worthy though. If I ever get there…

I bought 1 litre of the colour today to spray the engine bay and underside.

    That’s it for now.

    Thanks
    Martin

Wow, Martin. Great work as always.

Really nice work on the repair sections of the lower rear arches. The panel gaps look perfect!

    Hi Guys,

Sorry it's been a long time but I'd thought I'd share the latest photos.

The car has been on the road for just under 1 year.
