You wont like the final drive ratio of the diesel gearbox,it will rev its head off.Oh about the clutch a standard one will be fine.
Hey guy I'm just in a predicament at the moment. I've got a 4speed diesel gear box and I just brought a 1.8l 8 vale engine block, im about to replace the clutch before Assembling them together, is there a specific clutch I need to install or just a standard NA clutch.

Thanks buddy, If I get my hands on a 5speed is there any modifications I will come across by or will it just sit straight in.
They bolt up to the block the same. Some have a different sized input shaft and drive flanges and you will need a 5 speed gearbox mount and mod the linkages.Petrol 4 speed boxes are cheap as and work well.
A 5 speed Should fit straight in, although you may need to change the mechanisms (linkages, etc) to 5 speed ones to get it functioning properly, its not a hard job though
What year/model is it?
It's a 1980 GLD, ive taken out the diesel motor and replacing it with a 1.8l 8v motor. I'm trying to reuse some parts which can also adapt with both motors. It's not going to be a everyday car that ill be driving in and I'm aware of the final gear ratio on a 4 speed box.
What are your thoughts. Should I Just leave the 4 speed box
unless you do lots of hwy kms,the 4 speed will do fine, imo.
thanks for the help guys, really appreciate it !
I believe you are getting it wrong. A diesel engine revs a lot lower than a petrol. Therefore the gearing in a diesel gearbox (ie final drive ratio) is much taller (smaller numerically). So rather than screaming its head off the revs will be lower for a given speed than for a "petrol" gear box. This would make highway cruising easy so long as the engine has the torque to pull it. A 1.8 should handle it quite well.
