Mk1 Golf in Australia

This is not related to anything that I own or technical.

Is there any official Australia released Mk1 Golf, in any model, doesn't matter GLS, LS, GTI. etc.etc. If yes, were they imported from German or built in Australia ? I know VWA built Bug here in old days, what about Golf.

My 76 LS is built in Australia.

How to tell where is it built ? by vin number ?
Is old golf VIN number decoded using the same formula for late model VW cars ?

'76 Golf LS was made in Australia from CKD kits in Clayton, Victoria.

'78 to '81 GLS, GLD were imported from Germany.

That mean, anything that claim to be Mk1 Gti, must be a personal import ?

Is there any formula for the last 7 digits of the VIN ? Pre-80 Golf VIN is 10 digits which is different from our familiar WVW??????????????

Not that I know of.

1980 models were 17A.

I think the WVW..... may have come out in '81
