haha, anyway im a newish member so i haven't read this thread. i had a similar prob, i got a service (at a bp service station) and they told me to buy a new carb... anyway when looking for a new carb i spoke to a ex-member on this forum and he told me to check the power to the solenoid on the carb and it was lose... fixed it fine..... and there r like only 5 wires in the golfs... simple as engines.. went to andrew r after that, good bloke
